Margaret Adcock lost her fight with cancer in June 2023, a year after being diagnosed with Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma, she had just turned 18.
"Maggie" was the most thoughtful, loving, selfless and kind girl. Always with a radiating smile; always with a positive outlook. She was very outgoing and cared a lot about her close circle of friends. She loved to travel and enjoyed discovering new places and cultures. From a young age Margaret witnessed first-hand the vast difference in educational opportunities available to children in other countries. Consequently, she never took her home life and travels for granted. Her dedication and commitment being reflected in her outstanding A-level results. Although Maggie’s battle with cancer was long and painful, she was tenacious and brave until the end. “My message is to live every day as it comes. Find and do things that genuinely bring you joy. No one's tomorrow is guaranteed. Be grateful for everything and you will find yourself enjoying everything a little bit more.” This is her legacy.
During her battle with the illness, Margaret's wonderful supporting group of friends and family raised over £100,000 to grant some of her wishes, and to fund treatment unavailable from the NHS. After she passed away, this dedicated group felt the need to continue the momentum of their fundraising activities, and so The Margaret Adcock Foundation was formed.
For the public benefit, the advancement of education for disadvantaged children and young adults, particularly, but not exclusively in the Philippines, through the provision of grants for payment of school/university fees, or grants to other established charities. This idea comes from Margaret's personal experience and from direct involvement with families and students. Trustees find suitable students through established organisations working in The Philippines. The Foundation follows advice and guidance from charities and education professionals when selecting suitable candidates.
For the public benefit, the relief of sickness and the preservation and protection of health of children with newly diagnosed cancer by providing grants for immediate expenses such as travel and accommodation costs associated with their diagnosis and / or treatment. The grant is promoted through charity workers whose role involves sourcing grants and applying on behalf of families they deem eligible. The grant is paid directly to the patient or family.
For the public benefit, the relief of sickness and the preservation and protection of health of children with newly diagnosed cancer by providing grants for cancer research programmes, studies, and charities, particularly those involved with leading research into alveola rhabdomyosarcoma, provided that the useful results of such research are disseminated to the public at large. Donations are made through official funding channels and via other cancer charities. The Foundation conducts its own research when selecting programmes deemed suitable to receive support.
